Attending AI Summit 2024 as Crayon Hungary

Yesterday and today, I had the pleasure of attending the AI Summit in Budapest, thanks to Crayon Hungary and my colleague Szabolcs Baranyi. It was a fantastic use of time, filled with insightful presentations and great networking opportunities. In this article, I highlight my top presentations, explain why they stood out to me, and share the key takeaways that I will remember.

About the Crayon Hungary presentation – the guide for successful AI implementations

Well done, Szabolcs Baranyi | LinkedIn! We’ve received positive feedback from attendees, and your presentation sparked significant interest in the IBM offerings you highlighted.

When people think of AI, it’s often linked to the cloud. However, Szabolcs, our Data and AI expert, explained to the audience that AI can also be implemented on-premises, thanks to IBM’s AI-capable hardware portfolio.

Szabolcs also highlighted that Crayon offers an end-to-end delivery approach for AI-powered projects, guiding customers from the initial meeting all the way to project completion.

My Top 3 presentations and WHY they stand out

Microsoft – Peter Szabo | LinkedIn

As a former Microsoft employee, I’m deeply interested in what’s next for Microsoft following the major OpenAI acquisition. I’ve seen my colleagues in the Crayon UK conducting CoPilot workshops for enterprise customers, gathering feedback, and working to turn these into custom AI projects that provide greater value. This goes beyond simply selling CoPilot licenses, keeping delivery companies engaged, and adding more depth to customer relationships.

Peter’s presentation was excellent—it effectively blended the corporate message with the local market context, making the technology easy to grasp, even for those unfamiliar with it. Using Microsoft’s popular Office products powered by AI is a great way to introduce new possibilities and opens up discussions beyond basic functionalities, sparking interest and demand from customers.

Having spent most of my time working outside the Hungarian market, I’ve been keen to understand how 4iG Group operates within Hungary and what their AI and cloud strategy looks like. It’s fascinating to observe their developments, achievements, and strategic direction. The AI use cases in the defense, military, and space sectors have particularly caught my attention and given me a lot to think about. István Sárhegyi | LinkedIn set a high standard and provided an excellent overview along with compelling examples of AI use cases.

Dr. Frederik G. Pferdt | LinkedIn, an Adjunct Professor at Stanford University, left a strong impression on the audience, including me. I’ve always valued the importance of a growth mindset, something I learned from Microsoft management—pushing beyond my comfort zone, staying curious, and being open to new ideas. However, Frederik took it even further, introducing fresh perspectives and new ways of seeing the world.

“When your head is in the right place, you can be ready for whatever happens next. This is the future-ready mindstate.”

+1: How can we increase our children’s IT awareness in order to protect them?

This session explores how we, as users, can improve our children’s IT awareness to help protect them in the digital age. As a father of two, I found this topic especially compelling from a personal standpoint, raising new questions I need to explore further. At some point, I’ll have to co-parent alongside AI, ensuring I teach my boys how to use technology responsibly and to their advantage.

Samsung expo area – wireless DeX and Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop? Still cool together.

I’m a strong advocate for Samsung devices and remain excited to see how Telekom Mobil Iroda could further evolve by leveraging the best of Microsoft, Magyar Telekom, and Samsung. I’m particularly impressed by the wireless Samsung DeX feature. The current flagship Samsung devices have made significant advancements since I last worked hands-on with them two years ago.

This is still a great story to tell: Mobil Iroda (youtube.com)

Running multiple NVIDIA GPUs for AI workloads in Proxmox VE can cause early boot hangs if the host OS tries to load conflicting drivers. In this guide I document how my Proxmox host with 2× RTX 3090 was stuck at systemd-modules-load, how I debugged it, which files to inspect (/etc/default/grub, /etc/modprobe.d/, /etc/modules-load.d/), and the final stable configuration for rock-solid GPU passthrough to an Ubuntu VM.

Building the Perfect Edge AI Supercomputer – Adding an Edge Virtualization Layer with Proxmox and GPU Passthrough

I built on my edge AI hardware by adding Proxmox VE as the virtualization layer. After prepping BIOS, using Rufus with the nomodeset trick, and installing Proxmox, I enabled IOMMU, configured VFIO, and passed through 2× RTX 3090 GPUs to a single Ubuntu VM. This setup lets me run private AI workloads at near bare-metal speed, while keeping Windows and native Ubuntu for special use cases.

Budget AI Supercomputers: Dell Server vs. Threadripper Build vs. Next-Gen AI Desktop

Exploring three budget AI supercomputer paths: a Dell R740xd for enterprise labs with big storage but limited GPU flexibility, a TRX50 + Threadripper 7970X workstation offering fast DDR5, Gen5 NVMe, and dual RTX GPU power, and the futuristic GB10 AI desktop with unified CPU/GPU memory. Dell is lab-friendly, GB10 is AI-only, but the TRX50 build strikes the best balance today.

Building the Perfect Edge AI Supercomputer – Cost Effective Hardware

Keeping up with today’s technology is both exciting and demanding. My passion for home labs started many years ago, and while my family often jokes about the time and money I spend on self-education, they understand the value of staying ahead in such a fast-moving field. What started as curiosity has grown into a journey of building cost-effective supercomputers for edge AI and virtualization.
